A brand new business language qualification to boost language uptake in the English sixth form or offer an additional qualification to KS4 learners (equivalent to the Scottish S3 level).

The Chartered Institute of Linguists Educational Trust has launched a brand new professional business language qualification. Approved by Ofqual, it has been successfully trialled in a number of English sixth forms and at the University of Huddersfield. This practical and well respected qualification which is designed to boost employability skills has received excellent feedback from both students and teachers and is attracting interest in the corporate world as well as further schools and universities.

Although it has not been implemented in Scotland, the aims of the qualification will be of interest to those promoting the learning of modern languages this side of the border.

The Certificate in Languages for Business:

  • Encourages learners to use language skills for career enhancement and economic benefit
  • Raises the profile of language learning and increases student uptake at sixth form or can be offered as an additional qualification for 14 to 16 year olds
  • Graded pass, merit, distinction combining 6 end of module assessments (using supporting notes) and a final practical exam so suits a wide range of learners
  • Is ideal as an enrichment course and can contribute to the Duke of Edinburgh.

If teachers are interested in this qualification and course materials which are available in French, German and Spanish they can find out more about it by visiting the Language Alliance website and trialling the first half term’s worth of teaching resources.
